Throwback Tuesday – Released On This Day – Special Ed – ‘Youngest in Charge’
On this day, May 8th of 1989, the world was introduced to a (then) 16 year old emcee from the planet known as Brooklyn. That emcee’s name was Special Ed and before a waiter made him “potato -n- alligator souflee”, he released his debut album entitled Youngest in Charge and eventually sold 500,000 copies. The debut was eye opening in that Ed displayed a confident and just plain cool personality as he dropped what would become classic lines.
By today’s standards, Youngest in Charge was short, clocking in at barely 50 minutes and featuring only eleven tracks. Produced entirely by the legendary DJ and producer Hitman Howie Tee, it featured the certified classic tracks “Think About It”, “I’m the Magnificent” and of course, “I Got It Made”. The true measure of a classic is the response it gets when people hear it for the first time in a long time.Youngest in Charge and the singles released from it get the love every time a DJ drops them.
